I also tested the good files when I removed the pre alpha. Here don't just replace the blocks you will think it's ok but it's not.īottom line I can cause in a controlled manner every single one of the errors above and it's always the same. After the reset I did around 1230 I tested the blocks the paint and texture were there but the block had reverted to pre alpha. I changed certain blocks and repainted them. If the area is stable and the file saves you will be fine, but if it's unstable it will roll back. So what if I just change the blocks on my ship? Is it ok then? The answer is it depends on how damaged the area your making it in is. I modified and entire pre alpha SV and it rolled back to the original state. At first it was like 30 seconds here and there but as I move or worse shot things it got worse until nothing saved. The "good" files almost at once started to de sync. I then spawned in pre alpha ships and bases and recorded those times. These were the control group or "good" files. I wrote down specific file numbers and recorded their update times and dates. ![]() How do you know this? Well I can see the sever files. If I were to just import a blank ship or intentionally jack up the SV file the game saves itself by making it just a core. So why do I build an SV and it just becomes a core or has two cores? Ok this one was tougher but what happens is the file gets corrupted during the save process so the game by default just makes a starter block. It's why Bajor has these problems and there is almost no one there. So when Akua gets jacked all temperate planets suffer. All of the planets have a template drawing from the same source. Ok but why does problems on Akua cause problems on Evian 3? Same problem but worse. So if your ship 247345 is next to corrupted ship 247346 you get splash damage as it were. The memory leaks spread file to file but it's not based on where your ship is on the game (like planet location) but where the file is on the server. This exacerbates the problem so if we have bunches of people flying bad ships at once things go south really fast.īut wait I don't have a pre alpha ship why is this happening to me? Ok this one was hard to figure out but I got it. As the pre alpha ship moves thought the envrioment the server has to constantly update and reneder the location. So why are we stable then get worse? The answer is movement. It's not saving again due to the memory leaks. So what happends is that the playfiled starts losing its mind with the memory leak and it rolls back. What about the survival constructors and o2 generators disappearing? Ok the player file and ship files don't really talk to one another but the ship files DO talk to the play fields file. Trust me I corrupted my character file and had to redo it. It's actually doing that to keep the whole server from crashing or corrupting your character file. You get disconnected becuase the game can't put you in the cockpit. It's back on the planet and you are in space. So the player file gets saved the ship rolls back 30 seconds to a minute. Why do we keep losing ships? Becuase the server saves the player file and ships is two different locations. The server keeps trying over and over and then can't so we get those rapid short disconnects. So here is what happens the hull block causes the server to fail to save that ship file correctly. Albeit a small one but they add up quick. The issue is each hull block causes a memory leak. No other blocks seem to make this happen. It is definitive that it's the pre alpha hull blocks. ![]() Here is what I found and what it does to the server and FYI I am a building engineer so these terms are mine and not computer lingo. One critical note STARTER BLUE PRINTS ARE PRE ALPHA DONT USE THEM. Ok so last night there was some additional instability around 1am cst the reason was I was gathering technical data on our instability problems and i have discovered the following things and YES I have passed this along to the devs. ![]() Please read devs it's about to drive me to drinking. I tested while watching the file system in my server. We have noticed that the pre alpha blocks cause major problems on larger servers with high populations. Ok so I have done extensive testing on terracon a server with an average population of 25 active at any given time.
